Redesigning history for the future.

Announcements!

Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at 4:42 PM CST - Business UPDATE!

Afternoon everyone!
It has been a while since my last update and I apologize! Finishing my last degree, for History, ended up taking way more of my time than I expected. Not to mention we moved! (AGAIN) This time, however, it was a more permanent move into a home we hope will be our forever home.
It is a 1920 craftsman build. Upon moving in we decided to work on renovating the basement into my studio space (which is HUGE) and then I won’t have to work off the dining table or out of the living room anymore. Stick by for some photos as we hope to have it done by the end of this year - or at least to a point that I can have a workable setup down there.

There are still available slots for tailoring & alterations as I have come out of a busy wedding season. Big news (!), I am working on getting a shop set up on here since many have requested that the items I am prepping for the upcoming craft fairs be listed here as well. There will be a wide variety of seasonally embroidered hand/dish towels and pillows available. The pillows will be limited edition due to fabric availability from my supplier.

Any questions just shoot me a message as I am always happy to assist with any commissions or basic crafting advice.

Sincerely,

Kendra Raymond - Designer & Seamstress of AML Designs

Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 10:35 AM CST - QUARANTINE UPDATE

So I don’t know what everyone has been working on since quarantine started, but here is my BIG project aside from face masks.

This is my Passion Project for my final in my degree for Film & TV Costume Design. It represents my personal journey from when I started sewing at 10 years old to now and my future goals.

When I was 10 I started sewing patchwork pillows with my grandma. From there I received my first design degree from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. During that time I worked with a famous quilter Michael James on a project. After which I moved to California to pursue my costuming career. I did lots of commissions before beginning my time at FIDM and even made it into the Her Universe Fashion Show in 2018 with my quilted Reading Rainbow design. From now moving towards the future it is my goal to get into the Costume Design Guild (CDG) 892 union and even possibly the 705.

Below is the list of meanings in this piece:

1. Original sewing stepping stone.

2. First design degree.

3. Influenced by Michael James’s work.

4. 2nd design degree.

5. Work with Her Universe.

6. Future career goals of getting into the CDG unions. **The color scheme is meant to mimic the transition of film & TV from black and white to colour.

I lost track of how many hours this has taken me thus far, but it’s at least 100 hours. Final measurements are at 60” by 60” and I used 144 different quilting cotton designs to create the ombre designs.
